Description

This small hand woven African basket is handmade with traditional methods and all-natural materials. The size makes a great gift and works well as a small fruit bowl or as a side table accessory.

The bowls and platters are made in Kampala, Uganda, from a local fibre taken from a type of palm leaf called raffia which is wrapped around long strips of banana leaf stems.

Basket weaving is carried out from the woman’s home in between her other domestic duties.  The knowledge of how to weave has been passed down from generation to generation.

The women who make the baskets take great care to provide a quality product and to make the items to the patterns and colours shown. As the pieces are each handmade, there will be slight variations in patterns and colours.

Afribeads is a Fair Trader of Australia and all Afribeads products are made following the WFTO 10 Principles of Fair Trade, ensuring that the women making the products are provided with a good income, good working conditions and are supported to build their business and support their family and community.

Afribeads fair trade African baskets are all 100% plastic-free and made from 100% biodegradable plant materials.
